The European Wasatia Graduate School for Peace and Conflict Resolution brings together emerging scholars at an early stage of their careers who are committed to advancing innovative academic approaches to justice and reconciliation in political transformations.
The program particularly welcomes comparative studies with relevance to the Middle East. At its core lies an interdisciplinary, transnational, and multi-religious research framework that views truth and justice as foundations for sustainable peace.
Key areas of focus include:
- Moral, political, legal, and religious dimensions of reconciliation.
- Acknowledgment of historical suffering.
- Transformation of entrenched narratives.
- Promotion of interreligious and intercultural understanding.
The concept of Wasatiyya (moderation) embodies the practice of working and researching together.

Successful applicants will receive:
- A grant to cover tuition (SemestergebĂŒhr) and cost of living for up to 36 months.
- The grant will run from 2027 to 2029.
â Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Academic excellence in the wider field of Humanities and Social Sciences, including:
- Philosophy
- Sociology
- Literature
- Media
- Political Science and Economy
- Middle East Studies
- Religious Studies
- Law
- Graduated with an M.A. no longer than 5 years ago (exceptions may apply).
- Interest in interdisciplinary and international collaboration.
- Willingness to reside on campus in Flensburg for the duration of the program.
